EQUALIS’ mission is to bridge the gap between knowledge that drives change and action that realizes change. But we cannot achieve this mission alone. We need partners who share the vision of a labor market where everyone has equal opportunities.
EQUALIS was founded because, in Denmark today, we make too little use of data and research when defining and addressing the diversity and equality challenges that significantly affect our labor market and business sector.
In the broader public debate, we tend to rely on anecdotal evidence rather than well-documented research. For far too long, we’ve been hearing overly optimistic conclusions based on a skewed national narrative suggesting that Denmark already has gender equality.
The reality is that Denmark faces a wide range of cultural and structural barriers to equal opportunities in the labor market. Only by initiating a solution-oriented and data-driven societal conversation can we begin to break down those barriers.
With this in mind, EQUALIS, in collaboration with Deloitte, has developed a measurement and monitoring tool that, with a framework rooted in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, maps the entire Danish labor market across five key themes: Education & Career, Work Environment, Labor Market Attachment, Responsibility & Management, and Income & Wealth.
With the Diversity Barometer in hand, Denmark now has the necessary overview of the data and can once and for all remove “anecdotal” from “anecdotal evidence” — and begin to take meaningful steps toward a more equal labor market.
Labor shortage is one of the biggest growth barriers for Danish companies, and the challenge is expected to continue as younger generations make up an increasingly smaller portion of the population. The demographic aged 18 to 45 is expected to make up only 32% of the total Danish population by 2040 — a decline of 6 percentage points since the year 2000 (Statistics Denmark).
If we are to strengthen the development and competitiveness of Danish businesses and gain an edge in innovation and vision, we must ensure that all talents and resources are brought into play. This means creating an inclusive and attractive labor market where everyone thrives and wants to contribute.
The Diversity Barometer is published annually and is continuously expanded with data on more dimensions of diversity. With its comprehensive dataset, it becomes possible to closely and accurately monitor the development of diversity and equality in the Danish labor market.
Our other work focuses on addressing the identified knowledge gaps and developing action-oriented solutions to meet those challenges.
EQUALIS’ partners are therefore companies and organizations that, like us, believe that independent and methodologically sound data, analyses, and research are the path to a more equal labor market.
The think tank EQUALIS is a politically and commercially independent non-profit organization leading the way in the fight for a more equal labor market in Denmark, where everyone has equal opportunities.
But we cannot drive this agenda alone. We need partners who share our vision.
